ASSIGNMENT #3: ACTIVE FRAMES

Using the compositional strategies that we have talked about and looked at in class, make at least four photographs that are examples of “active framing”. Think about this as a way to make the photographic image visually exciting using the following elements:

• Point of View: Use an unusual point of view, don’t always shoot from eye level!

• Repetition & Pattern: Use natural and unnatural subject matter to create visual patterns.

• Convergence: Use converging lines and the rules of visual perspective to make an image.

• Rule of Thirds: Use this common compositional strategy to frame your subject matter.

• Scale: Use a shift or contrast in scale to create a dynamic image.

Each image should be printed on 8x10 photo paper with a clean border.
